We adopt a ‘challenge by choice’ approach at Rock and River and we will never force you to do anything you don’t want to do. • This activity is made up of a group of tasks, selected to suit the group, which challenge different aspects of team work and communication. There are numerous different problems to solve to suit all ages and abilities. Forever popular with schools and corporate groups alike initiative exercises are designed to specifically challenge your group in a number of different ways and much can be learned from evaluating the outcomes. This activity can be selected as a one hour session as part of your Outdoor Activity Day or for a more in-depth team building session why not try our Team Initiative Challenge?

A classic team event that uses a giant-sized ladder suspended from two 13m (42ft) poles. Jacob’s Ladder is a true test of co-operation, balance, co-ordination and a degree of strength. The rungs of this giant ladder are spaced approximately 5ft apart. Your challenge is to work effectively with your partner using good communication and team work and help each other reach the top. Our instructors are happy to give you extra kit as an aid, if you require it, in order to help you reach the top.

  • Kayaking

Your session will begin with a land-based introduction to your kayak and a safety talk. Your instructor will take the group through basic paddling skills helping individuals progress throughout the session. A variety of games and activities provide plenty of entertainment and help the group to gain confidence on the water. All participants must wear a buoyancy aid throughout the session; these will be fitted and checked by our qualified and experienced staff. Please bring footwear for the water and a change of clothing. We also have a number of sit-on-kayaks available which can be used on their own for a session or in conjunction with regular kayaks.
