You can choose from over 15 different activity sessions to customise your very own special Outdoor Activity Day. All of these activities are situated here on our 180 acre site. We have activities for all age groups and abilities. We are able to design your visit however you like. So if you and your group want to come along and just have some fun then Rock and River can accommodate this. If however, you want your day to have a team-building or competitive element to it, then we would love to arrange this for you too.

You can choose from either land-based activities or water-based activities. Each activity has a different type and degree of challenge. We adopt a ‘challenge by choice’ approach at Rock and River and we will never force you to do anything you don’t want to do. What we do ask, is that you at least have a go at stepping outside of your ‘comfort zone’ whilst you are with us. Our instructors, who are fully qualified and very experienced, will do their best to make you feel as comfortable as possible and will always encourage you positively.

We also run activities within our Woodland Learning sessions that are designed to stimulate curiosity and imagination, inspire creativity, and educate you, as well as increase your awareness of the natural environment.

On-Site Activities

  • Abseiling down our Climbing Tower

    Descend from a mighty height!

Abseiling is fantastic fun and a safe way to conquer a fear of heights. It's an essential skill for climbers to practice, and is a great activity in it's own right. Our Climbing Tower has two routes down a dedicated Abseiling wall.

Get kitted up and climb up the centre of the tower, when you reach the top your instructor will show you how to lean backwards over the edge and Abseil down to earth.

  • Air rifle target shooting

Air Rifle Shooting is another great activity that you can take part in, either just for fun, or we can add a competitive element to your session. Your instructor will start by giving you the safety briefing before explaining how to use our 177 Air Rifles. You will then take it in turns to learn how to use your rifle and perfect your aim. Can you hit the target? Score as many points as you can and find out who is the best sharp shooter!

A delicate balancing act for you and your friends. All aboard is a classic exercise in trust and is designed to encourage teamwork and communication. Climb the 13m (42ft) pole to access a small platform, balance yourself precariously at the top and then make room for a further 3 people! One by one your friends now join you on the platform, which is barely big enough for one person, Now that you’re all standing on the top, 13m in the air, if you have the nerve, put the ultimate trust in your friends; hold each other’s hands and lean back!

  • Archery

Archery is a sport which can be enjoyed by all abilities and all but the youngest hands. It's a great skill to learn, and we can show you how in our indoor range. For the more adventurous we also run field archery (weather permitting). Sessions begin with an introduction to the bow and arrow, a demonstation and safety briefing before we turn you into the next ... (insert favourite archery hero)
